Into the Fire Maps and Districts

Semi-open disaster zones that rewrite themselves. Learn the names, then treat last week's street as a rumour.

Maps and Districts

Every Into the Fire expedition is a district, not a corridor shooter. Starward describes the island as semi-open disaster zones that evolve during the cataclysm: fire spreads, lava cuts streets, bombs crater the asphalt, and a route you used yesterday can be a chimney today. This page is the map hub. It names the places playtests and official copy actually use, then points you at the systems that punish treating a name as a static layout.

The official Steam spelling is New Sindra. Creator VODs and auto-captions often write New Sindra or New Cindra. Same city. This wiki follows the studio. Pair the names with extraction, volcanic hazards, and the expedition planner so a skull rating is a plan, not a surprise.

How districts actually work

Store copy and interviews keep the same rules:

  • You pick a job from camp, then travel into a named area.
  • The area is semi-open. You can deviate, loot, and take side streets, but the volcano is rewriting the graph while you walk.
  • Skull ratings grade danger. Playtests treat one-skull New Sindra as teaching ground and three-skull Crimson Pass as a later exam.
  • Between runs, lava and fire can block or reopen approaches. German preview coverage noted you can return to a hotel district after a flow has cut through it and explore the aftermath.
  • Area and Gate quests in Open Playtest no.2 give individual districts their own objectives, obstacles, and alternative routes. A map is no longer only a loot bag.

If you learned the island from a May 2026 VOD, re-scout. The August 31–September 7 wave reworked onboarding and traversal. Electricity poles can now be knocked down as improvised bridges. That is a layout verb, not flavour.

New Sindra — the city teaching ground

New Sindra is the urban district testers hit first. Steam’s own playtest FAQ told Soul Seekers they would “step into New Sindra.” Survival Bob’s hour then showed a dense mix of residential and commercial interiors, a named rescue for Zoe, and a return to camp that actually changed the hub.

What that means in practice:

  • Tight streets, multi-floor buildings, locked doors, and interiors that punish a snapped axe.
  • Fire as a door. The August 2026 gear diary treats the extinguisher as how you open a city you cannot walk around.
  • Named jobs live here early. William sending you after Zoe is the first-hour story beat, not a side errand. See quests and rescue.
  • Hotel stairs and tram wrecks show up in loadout notes as the reason sleds and boats are dead weight here. Pack detector, rope, tanks, and a breach tool from the city kit.

Do not treat New Sindra as “easy forever.” Skulls climb. A one-skull teaching run is for learning kick cost and RV timing. A later Sindra job with a high camp threat is a different map wearing the same name.

Crimson Pass — the high-skull exam

Playtest footage and camp boards grade Crimson Pass at the top of the early skull ladder. Creators use it when they want earthquakes, lava, and collapsing routes in the same extract. This wiki treats three-skull Crimson Pass as not a beginner playlist.

How to read it:

  • Longer exposure. You spend more time in the open than in a Sindra alley, so hazard tells matter more than interior shotgun cones.
  • Mix of rescue and survival. You still carry people, but the abort line is earlier. If the RV is talking, relics are souvenirs.
  • Pack scanner, spare tanks, and a mobility tool. The gadgets ranking exists for this district.
  • Unlock it after you can extract on one-skull New Sindra with water left. Climbing skulls because a Discord screenshot looked cinematic is how kits die.

The Ruins — vertical extraction

Starward highlighted the Ruins as a more vertical, corridor-and-cave space around the 2026 “What We Bring Back” trailer. Playtest notes later listed it as added content: interiors, ladders, ziplines, and the kind of geometry that turns a carry into a puzzle.

Rules that hold in every public description:

  • Height is the resource. Empty stamina at the top of a ladder with a body in your arms is a wipe even if fire never touched you. Controls are a Ruins guide.
  • Ropes and ziplines jump to S-tier. A city shotgun kit without a line is a C-tier souvenir here.
  • Indoor darkness plus cave mouths means detectors still earn their slot. You are hunting lives in volume, not on a street grid.
  • Greed is vertical. One extra floor for a relic is a one-way climb if the quake timer is already at 300 seconds.

Other spaces the copy names

Not every name is a selectable playlist yet.

  • Dante’s Archipelago is the setting, not a single map. Story framing lives on lore.
  • Cableway Old Station appeared in TGS 2025 hands-on coverage as a hub / old station the team used as a shelter and planning space. Playtest VODs more often just say Camp. Treat the station as flavour until a build labels it on your daily report.
  • Hotel districts and lava-cut villages show up in interviews as examples of terrain that can be temporarily blocked, then revisited.
  • Traversal toys — retro sleds, acid-resistant boats, ziplines, and in Open Playtest no.2 a Jetpack unlocked through the LAB quest — are map-dependent. See gadgets and quests.

If a name is only in a trailer still, this page will not invent a loot table for it.

How to scout without a minimap bible

  1. Run New Sindra once with a first-city loadout and extract early.
  2. Note one landmark (tram, bakery alley, hotel stair) and whether fire still allows it on the next day.
  3. Accept an Area or Gate quest so the district tells you what it wants. Blind looting is how you miss the alternative route the quest was pointing at.
  4. Only then queue Crimson Pass or Ruins, and write abort lines in the planner.
  5. After PT2, rebind keys and test a knocked-down pole or a zipline before you carry a named survivor across it.

Maps in Into the Fire are weather. Learn the climate, not a painted overlay. When playtest notes change a timer or a traversal verb, this page will follow the new verb, not the old screenshot.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Is it New Sindra or New Sindra?

Official Steam posts say New Sindra. Creator captions often write Synra. Same city. This wiki uses Sindra.

Which map should I play first?

One-skull New Sindra. Read Getting Started and extract with one survivor before Crimson Pass.

Do layouts stay the same between runs?

No. Fire, lava, and bombs rewrite approaches. Scout again after a high-threat day.

Where is the Ruins unlock?

Playtests added it as a later vertical district. Check your camp board; do not assume every wave includes it.
